Ten Years (2015-2025) of Innovation: The Digital Dentistry Society shapes the future of dentistry

2015-2025 A decade of digital transformation

Between 2014 and 2015, a visionary group of clinicians and researchers came together in Lugano, Switzerland to found the Digital Dentistry Society (DDS). Their mission was very bold: to guide dentistry into a new era through the integration of digital technologies, promoting research, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration in order to validate and set the direction of development of digital dentistry.

The nature of the Society was non-profit, being the Society supported by industrial partners, but with a vocational scientific inspiration which cannot be properly expressed by any strictly market-focused approach.

Ten years later, DDS has become the largest and most active scientific society in the field of digital dentistry at international level. With members and collaborators spanning the globe, DDS has created a Community where dentists, dental technicians, dental hygienists and assistants, engineers and software developers can meet, learn, and innovate together and have been regarded as a new standard by the leading dental manufacturers in the corporate world.

From international congresses to high-level e-learning courses and scientific publications, namely under a very fruitful and exceptional cooperation with the publishing house Elsevier, the Society has helped thousands of professionals elevate their practice through digital knowledge.

2025 DDS Global Congress and converging technologies in dentistry

As the DDS prepares to host its Global Congress 2025 in Venice, Italy, it celebrates not only a decade of achievements—but also the convergence of technologies that are redefining dentistry itself. The title fo the Congress says it all: Dentistry between Artificial Intelligence, Mixed Reality and Robotics.

Specifically, for digital dentistry, the last decade has seen an unprecedented fusion of multiple technologies, which now converge into into integrated workflows, enabling faster, more predictable, controllable and minimally invasive treatments.

This interconnectivity is actively reshaping the dental clinic: turning it into a fully digital lab of diverse, often interdisciplinary knowledge — where diagnosis, treatment planning, design and production merge into a streamlined process.

For this exact reason, after 10 years from 2015 we can state that digital dentistry is no longer a niche—it’s becoming the standard, and that digital education and „digital literacy” in Dentistry are no longer optional.

This is where DDS plays a critical role. Its commitment to digital education empowers professionals with up-to-date knowledge on validated tools and techniques; scientific research that demystifies hype and sets clear guidelines; multidisciplinary collaboration, essential for mastering new systems.

Digital education doesn’t just teach tools—it transforms clinical thinking. A dentist trained in digital workflows can offer more personalized, efficient, and aesthetic treatments, while also gaining time-saving and cost-effective advantages.

A future built on Digital Excellence

The DDS 10-Year Anniversary isn’t just a celebration of the past—it’s a springboard into the future. As dentistry continues to evolve, the Society remains committed to:

  • Supporting research into next-generation tools
  • Guiding industry standards and validation

The 2025 DDS Global Congress in Venice will be more than an event — it will be a showcase of how far we’ve come, and a roadmap for what lies ahead !

Join us in celebrating 10 years of digital excellence—and be part of the movement that’s shaping the next decade of dentistry.
