Dear friends and esteemed colleagues,
I hope you and your families are well. I am writing this Editorial shortly after the Digital Dentistry Society (DDS) State of the Art Congress, which took place in Florence from 18 to 19 October. This is the fifth conference on the State of the Art in digital technologies in the history of the Digital Dentistry Society (after those in Milan in 2016, Marrakech in 2018, Serralunga d’Alba in 2020 and Rhodes in 2022). The State of the Art is by definition the smallest conference of the DDS, the one most focused on science and technology, which is naturally counterbalanced by the Global Congress (Baden Baden 2019, Cernobbio 2021, and recently Casablanca 2023) which is normally more clinical in the topics covered.
However, I believe that this time the State of the Art truly represents a perfect combination of research, technology and clinics, with extremely innovative content and format. The two days of the congress are built as a great collective opera, with three renowned speakers present simultaneously on stage to discuss different topics of science and technology (on Friday) and clinic (on Saturday). For the first time, innovations with a great impact on the dental community will be presented, such as the applications of Artificial Intelligence for the planning of implants and crowns, the 3D printing of hybrid definitive restorations, and the placement of dental implants via holographic surgery.
“I believe that this time the State of the Art truly represents a perfect combination of research, technology and clinics, with extremely innovative content and format.”
We have over 450 registered dentists, which combined with around a hundred specialists and managers brought in by our Partner Companies, allow us to exceed 500 participants. This fills us with pride because we know how difficult is today to organize a successful event, and above all, to convince colleagues from all over the world to travel to a conference, given the multitude of events available and the limited time to professionals, always caught up between work and family commitments.
This is also the first global event of my two years (2024-25) as President: as you can imagine my emotion is particular. Preparing for such an event requires time and effort: we have been working for at least a year, with a tireless team, and meetings in the last 3-4 months were practically weekly. I would like to particularly thank Prof. Carlo Mangano, who has been the guiding light throughout the organization thanks to his extraordinary experience and desire to do well by taking care of all the details, Sonia Carnevale who is our irreplaceable DDS Secretary, Maddalena Fumagalli who brilliantly takes care of the Local Secretariat, our General Manager Dr. Alfonso De Paolini, and the team of graphic designers supporting the DDS, namely Riccardo and Giuditta.
The conference received, among other things, the prestigious approval and patronage of the Italian Government – Department for Digital Transformation. The hope is truly to satisfy the expectations of the participants and Partner Companies that will take part in the event.
We are ready, and we are excited, with the aim of writing another successful chapter in the beautiful history of the Digital Dentistry Society (DDS), which will turn 10 next year at the Global Congress in Venice (16-18 October 2025). Ten years of success and the best is yet to come!
